60 in 1 arkanoid spinner7/30/2023 ![]() I can only theorize about why Taito changed them. This leads me to believe that there are at least two different versions of these Taito spinners out there. This isn't a mistake because if you notice in the photo below, there is no hole for mounting it off to the side and therefore no third hole to allow for another gear. It's more in the center of the base, rather than off to one side. I got my answer when I flipped the spinner upside down.įirst, the optic board is mounted in a completely different spot. With that said, at first I wondered if perhaps my 2-gear spinner was simply missing 2 gears. One thing to note is that my spinner works perfectly - it's very solid and not wobbly, nor does it feel incomplete in any way. Here are some photos comparing both styles of spinners side-by-side. This spinner had 4 gears used to move the encoder wheel, whereas mine only had 2! It makes sense why the one would be much more sensitive than the other - it has 4 gears spinning the wheel (essentially) twice as fast as my 2-gear spinner. After swapping the boards, there was no change. Both looked identical and had the same style optics and wheels, but it was easy to do before taking them apart. The other thing was that the directions were reversed (right was left, left was right.) The reason for this will become obvious later on.īefore taking the spinners apart, I decided to swap optic boards to see if the answer was there. It took roughly 90 degrees to get the vaus from far left to far right. Immediately, I noticed that the sensitivity of this one was roughly twice as sensitive as mine. The first thing I did was swap spinners entirely. In order to dig into this further, I acquired a second spinner (thanks 34k!) to dissect and compare with mine. In any event, it's clear that not every spinner is the same. Some folks claim it takes anywhere between 120-180 degree turn, while others say 60-90 degrees. This seemed pretty bizarre to me as the knob looked identical to the spinner I had.Īfter discussing this some fellow KLOVers, I realized that there's definitely a split with regards to the spinners. In fact, I'd guess that it required MAYBE a 45 degree twist to get the vaus from far left to far right. But during Grinkers I noticed that the spinner they had in the Arkanoid: R.O.D. ![]() For example, the spinner that's been in my Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH takes about a 180 degree twist to get the vaus from the far left to the far right. Since Grinkers, I've been perplexed as to why some spinners seem to be much more sensitive than others. I'm not sure if this has been documented yet, as I haven't found any information discussing this, but I've made an interesting discovery regarding the Taito spinners used in Arkanoid games.
